Amigo The Griot

Set in Eersterivier, Cape Town, Amigo the Griot follows a blind Afrikaaps Hip Hop storyteller who reconnects with his filmmaker friend to retrace his coming-of-age journey. A sharp lyricist and griot at heart, Amigo transforms memory, sound, and environment into a living, rhythmic narrative. Blending vérité with musical and poetic interludes, the film unfolds through a series of vignettes, offering intimate access to the Afrikaaps Hip Hop community while tracing the contours of Amigo’s personal story. As they return to the pivotal event that altered the course of his life, the film opens into a meditation on justice, forgiveness, and the slow, ongoing work of healing.
